As a child I never read books, I was more inclined towards movies and television shows. Every evening was spent in front of tv watching loads of shows and movies. It has not been more than five years that I stumbled into the magical world of books, and as they say it’s never too late to start reading a book. The more books I started reading the more I realized I have been watching book adaptations all my life. Allow me to share my five favorite adaptations with you all.

Every Fairy tale/Once upon a time

Fairy tales have been used and abused in any format available, but somehow this show has made more sense to me than any fairy tale I ever read. This Disney production has made fairy tale characters more human by putting them into modern world but keeping the crux intact. This show signifies hope and encourages people to take second chances. If you love fairy tales then you cannot miss this show.

Hinger Kochuri / Amar Prem

Its humbling to see how a short story was adapted into a feature film. while hinger kochuri written by Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay  showcased a beautiful relationship between a prostitute and a child, Amar Prem added more layers to it.

And then there were none

And then there were none by Agatha Christie is a classic, period. This classic was adapted into a feature film in 1945 before and in 2015 a mini series brought this book back to the television sets. I didn’t like the movie but this 3 episodic series surpassed my expectations.

The fault in our stars

I watched the movie first, then read the book and ended up crying both the times. Life is beautiful , we make it complex. The movie was bam on expressing the sentiments between Hazel Grace Lancaster and  Augustus Waters.

Sherlock Holmes

This magnificent work of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle has been adapted into many movies till date, but this particular adaptation into a television series which brings our favorite detective to the modern world is more interesting. It’s no more a black and white period drama.

Hot Tea with Yummilicious Onion rings anyone?

Daddddyyyyy!!! Screamed Aadil seeing his father at the Terrace door.

Raj winked at Rani and hurried towards the right corner of the terrace where a beautiful wooden swing with a roof stood. It was the only part of the terrace which could protect Raj from the Rains. The mad trio followed him towards the swing for a dose of Heaven.

Eating hot onion bhajiyas with steaming hot tea on a rainy evening is Heaven.

~Hi beautiful. Here, take these glasses.

Raj poured tea for both of them.kids started munching on onion rings while both husband-wife sipped tea starring each other.

~So, how’s the tea?

~Just the way it was the first time you made for me – Perfect.

~seems like mad trio had some good time, this evening.

~Yes, But I missed You.

~I am sure we can do something about it, no? Winked Raj while taking a step towards Rani. Holding her hand in his, a thought occurred to him.

What did I do to deserve such a beautiful family?  God has been too kind on this ordinary man!

He tried nearing Rani but she pushed him away, kids are around.

They finished their tea and Pakode and got back home. Kids ran towards their room to change into their pajamas. Rani sneezed on the way to her bedroom.

~Bless You!

And just when she was about to reply she sneezed again.

~Aur bheego baarish mein!

~I am fine. I’ll change and come.

Rani quickly took a shower and changed into a red Nighty. Before going to the kitchen she checked on the kids, who were already in their night clothes jumping on their respective beds.

~ Ayan, Aadil stop jumping on the beds.

~ sowiee Mummmaa.

~ It’s okay my baby. Dinner will be ready in few minutes,  okay?

~Mumma, I am not hungry. I ate well replied little Aadil

~ even I am not hungry mom.

~ sure? I don’t want you two to wake up in middle of the night hungry.

~ no mom, I am full.

~ okay, I’ll get you some milk then.

Kids drank milk and dozed off to sweet slumber. Rani prepared the remaining pakode while Raj surfed the various news channels for some decent news.

Dinner is Ready!

As soon as Raj sat in his chair, Rani lit few candles and switched off the lights of the Dinning room. Raj smiled seeing a glowing Rani. They ate silently in the dim lights of candles having eyes fixed on each other, occasionally feeding each other.

Rani was completely drenched. She loved getting drenched in rains and more so if it was unseasonal rains in summer. She hated summer but loved rains. Seeing Rani dancing, singing and enjoying Ayan and Aadil ran towards her. Ayan, Rani’s elder son was much like her sweet and cute. On other hand the younger one, Aadil had inherited his Dad’s charm.

Mummmaaaa!!!! Screamed the younger one startling Rani out of her trance. Rani smiled and hold her hands out calling her two Princes in a family hug. Even though she was always worried for their health but she never stopped Ayan and Aadil from getting drenched in rains and how could she, when she was the first one to get to the terrace as soon as she sensed rains.

They sang songs and danced merrily while half of the city was busy cribbing about the sudden downpour and the havoc created by it.

Raj somehow managed to reach home on time and was glad he was not out on the roads while it started raining. Raj didn’t liked getting drenched in rains. Ten years backs, may be he hated rains but now he couldn’t. He met Rani on a rainy night and that rainy night changed his life. He was glad he got drenched that night.

When he opened the main door,Raj found home empty and it took him no time in guessing where the mad trio would be. Raj smiled, ‘Crazy Rain Lovers’ and their lovely rain. I am an minority in this family. Dear God, was it too much of pain to make one child, Atleast one child of mine hate rain or even dislike? Huh!

He quickly changed into his night clothes and raided kitchen to find out if Rani has prepared dinner. He found sliced onions and a bowl of yellow batter on the kitchen platform. Great! Pyaaj ke pakode for dinner. Though he didn’t fancy rains, he couldn’t ever get tired of eating pakode on a rainy night. He never understood why these simple bhajiyas tasted so yummy during rains. Whatever! Lets make bhajiyas and surprise the mad trio upstairs, exclaimed the dotted husband/father.

Within 15mins he had prepared half of the bhajiyas/Pakode and tea. Switching off the stove, he quickly checked the status of rains. It was drizzling outside. Soon the mad trio will be home. I should go upstairs before they come down.

Holding a kettle in right hand and casserole in left Raj made his way to the Terrace. Standing on the Doorway a announcement was made.

Hot Tea with Yummilicious Onion rings anyone?

Chapter – 17

Cyrus was really confused about his mood today. He really had good quality time with Jennifer, whom he had started liking for some strange reasons! But, on the beautiful evening with Jennifer the Dutta couple’s interference almost spoilt Cyrus’s perfect date. Though Cyrus was sure he was not in love with Jennifer yet, still he felt discomfort for Jennifer’s interest in Shekhar.

Cyrus kept on thinking the possibilities why young, beautiful and brilliant girl like Jennifer should be interested in a middle aged average looking stranger Mr. Dutta. In sub conscious mind Cyrus started comparing himself with Shekhar dutta and soon felt exhausted.

To divert his bugged up mind Cyrus switched on his laptop. Not like all conventional law students, Cyrus used internet more frequently and openly for recent cases, judgments and case progresses. Cyrus knew the need to keep self updated with latest information of Indian as well as international law suits. Apart from law, Cyrus had huge interest in politics as well as blogging. “Our country’s progress hugely depends on politics in our country and to impose healthy and positive politics, youth has to involve into politics with heart and soul”- Cyrus believed that strongly! Cyrus’s blog –“Exclusively Political”- was a very popular blog with lot many Indian and international loyal readers-followers. Cyrus had habit to read about current political affairs, analyze, research and write some update almost every day on his blog. He followed national and international newspaper, blogs, and newsmedia very closely to keep updated. Cyrus opened his blog and tried to divert his mind by writing a short blog post. Since two days Cyrus had been researching on collaboration and relations of political leaders with business tycoons with recent controversy of Mr. Manichandra Trivedi and Aryan Aahuja. Cyrus had whole story in his mind, but his heart was not cooperating. Cyrus started writing the post, his fingers ran onto keyboard mechanically and..

Cyrus could not believe what he wrote!

“Time is supreme power, Love is ultimate weakness…
Human chasing power, seldom values emotional wealth!
Money may be aim for many, does that repay for broken promises and unfulfilled commitments?
I, in the crowd of many, is lonely inside…
I, in the search of truth, haven’t lived lie?
Lie, colourless-rude and brutal…
I have been a living lie… since long…
I have been a lie…
In pursue of love and happiness, I have been a lie!”

Cyrus could not believe that he, who hated poetry, had memorized the poem perfectly and wrote it correct word to word. Though Cyrus’s head warned him to edit the post by deleting the poem, somehow Cyrus didn’t! Cyrus felt, he started liking Jennifer and this poem too!
Cyrus picked up his mobile and dialed Jennifer’s number. As even after 2-3 calls when Jennifer didn’t picked up the call, Cyrus started elaborating the post further.

“Stranger,Just for you, I am solving this puzzle too!
just for you, I am playing with poetic words too!
So that proves- Love, emotions make us weak!

You, stranger for me till few days,
Have been my priority today,
It proves- Time is ultimate power!
As I am chasing you, with every breath and tic of time,
You are slipping out of my reach, just like the running time!
It proves- you rule my heart,
and that power is making you, take my feelings for granted!
I said myself, I don’t love you,
I repeated it hundred times inside!
It proves- in search of truth, I am living Lie!
Lie that- I don’t love you,
Lie – colourless, rude and brutal..

Stranger dear,
Will you become the light of truth in pursue of my happiness?”

Cyrus almost cried with overwhelming emotions, without any visible reason!

Cyrus laughed and cried at once thinking- that he, a law guy, oriented in politics, actually wrote his first poem! Or he actually admitted truth to his inner soul?

                   Chapter 11

Walking like teenagers freshly fallen in love, Tara and Shekhar holding each other’s hand walked into Crossword. Crossword – Paradise for the Book loving souls. The walk from the Hotel to the Crossword was as lovely as it used to be 11yrs back when they were dating.

This impromptu stay at Delhi is nothing less than a Blessing in Disguise for their relationship. May be they needed this, mouthed Tara to herself while Shekhar was browsing his favourite genre. Tara could never argue whether Shekhar loved her more or the books, novels , novellas he was always engrossed into. Tara too started browsing books to accompany her book-worm husband.

In other corner of the Crosswords, a law student was having an hard time solving a puzzle. Puzzle, that Jennifer hoped could help her unravel the mysteries behind that letter.

~Why is this Puzzle so important to you?  asked a lil’ annoyed Cyrus Daruwala.

~And I thought Lawyers were intelligent ! Smirked Jennifer Joseph.

~Very Funny! See, I am a Law student not a Arts student replied cyrus making an ‘I am fed up with this puzzle’ face.

~Awwww!! Let’s try once more. Last time for today pleaded Jennifer making a puppy face.

~Alright!  Alright!!

“Time is supreme power, Love is ultimate weakness…Human chasing power, seldom values emotional wealth!Money may be aim for many, does that repay for broken promises and unfulfilled commitments?I, in the crowd of many, is lonely inside…I, in the search of truth, haven’t lived lie?Lie, colourless-rude and brutal…I have been a living lie… since long…I have been a lie…In pursue of love and happiness, I have been a lie!”
Finished Cyrus in one go without a pause or a moment to catch a breath.

~That was the most ridiculous way of reading something written so beautifully. You just killed the essence of the whole Poem. How could you Cyrus?

~ In my Defence, I would like to point out that sitting with a sexy girl in Crossword solving a puzzle is not my idea of a ideal Date, mumbled Cyrus.

~ You are highly mistaken Mr. Stranger, this is not a Date, replied Jennifer with a shy smile.

Whatever! Let’s forget this puzzle solving game of yours for some time, pleaded Cyrus.

Jennifer couldn’t control her smile seeing how irritated Cyrus looked at that very moment.

It’s no less than a nightmare to travel to the outskirts of Delhi – Chattarpur on a December night thought Cyrus, while driving to the party venue – Kapoor Farms. A killing smile!

I was walking home from work when I saw him coming from opposite direction staring me, checking me out head to toe . Nervous as I was, started taking long steps. He kept staring. I was about to pass him when he whistled and winked at me.
I turned and saw he was walking ahead but looking back at me, I smiled, a killer smile. He was confused. Instead of stopping, he kept walking while watching me smile and Bamm! He walked into a wall hitting himself on head.
And I say to myself,  “Mission Accomplished”.

What is it about rains that You love it so much? he asked. He who never liked getting drenched in rains, never allowed the raindrops to tickle his face, what would I say to him? I replied,  Nothing. At the same time Everything.

His face remained confused and I smiled, for I knew I have irritated him a little by not replying exactly what he wanted to hear. He seemed genuine while asking the question,  but what do you really answer to a question like that.

I took a long breath and poured out my feelings in words, “Rains Clean my soul, they wash away my sorrows. I feel optimistic, I feel new. Rains make me happy,Rains make me content. Rains make me sad, I feel torned apart. A part of me cries and a part rejoice.Rains remind me of my childhood, the carefree attitude. Rains make me more humane”.

And most importantly Rains remind me of You. It was a rainy day when we met for the first time. Rains brought you in my life.
